Medical Habits that Seem Right but are Dangerous for you

There are lots of things that we do from time to time, believing are good for us, but unfortunately, are very dangerous habits. It is a fact that nobody would intentionally set out to harm himself/herself, but what happens in a situation where the things you do to protect yourself are actually harming you instead. Doesn’t sound good right?

This is why it is very important that we know the habits that seem common and right, but are actually dangerous and should be stooped.

Let’s start with the most common one; Googling your symptoms! Googling your symptoms can be a double-edged sword. While it may provide quick access to information, and increase your awareness, it can lead to misinformation or provide inadequate context around your condition leading to anxiety or delay in seeking care.

Another one is Taking antibiotics for viral infections: Antibiotics are targeted to treat bacterial infections and won’t help in treating viral infections like common cold or diarrhoea causes by viruses. It is also a harmful practice because you can develop resistance to antibiotics making future bacterial infections harder to treat.

Women! This next one is especially for you and is actually common among a lot of females; Douching: Douching is when a woman uses liquid, mostly water in cleansing her vagina. While this may sound hygienic it is harmful as it disrupts the natural balance of bacteria and yeast in the vagina leading to infections. Also, chemicals in the douching solution can also irritate or cause inflammation in the vagina.

Indiscriminate use of painkillers is one very common habit that is equally very dangerous. Regularly taking over-the-counter pain relievers, like acetaminophen or ibuprofen, can cause liver damage, kidney issues, or gastrointestinal problems. If you have to be on these medications for a long time, your doctors typically will monitor for side effects

Additionally, Vitamin Over-supplementation is another habit that should be stopped because high doses of certain vitamins can be harmful and may lead to toxicity, particularly fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K).
